Help Group Expands Family Support Services to Deepen Impact Across Los Angeles

Every family deserves support. Every parent deserves someone in their corner. And every child deserves the chance to grow up safe, supported, and thriving.

This year, Help Group is expanding our Family Support Services in meaningful ways, deepening our partnerships, reaching new communities, and increasing access to critical early intervention and prevention programs for families across Los Angeles County.

“For decades, Help Group has supported children and families across Los Angeles through comprehensive mental health and family support services,” said Dr. Susan Berman, CEO of Help Group. “These programs help parents lay a strong foundation for their family and discover the resources they need to thrive.”

Through the expansion of our Partnerships for Families (PFF) program, the award of a new child abuse prevention contract, and partnership with Good+Foundation, we are strengthening our commitment to helping children and families build resilience and restore hope.

Expanding Partnerships for Families

For nearly two decades, Help Group’s PFF program has walked alongside expectant parents and families with young children during the critical early years of a child’s life, providing in-home visits, parenting education, and connections to essential resources that help families build strong foundations from the very start.

Since 2006, Help Group has been the lead contractor for PFF in Los Angeles County Department of Child and Family Services, supporting families in Service Area 2 (San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valleys). In 2023, we expanded this agreement to include Service Area 5 (West Los Angeles) and, with our latest agreement, we have expanded into Service Areas 6 (South/Central Los Angeles) and 8 (South Bay).

“We feel incredibly fortunate to be able to support more families in new regions of Los Angeles County,” said Melissa Miller, Senior Director of Family Support Services. “Expanding Partnerships for Families means helping parents build stability, strengthen bonds with their children, and create brighter futures for their families. We’re excited to deepen our impact and expand our reach as an agency.”

A New Partnership with Good+Foundation

In addition to its expanded contract with Department of Child and Family Services, Help Group’s PFF program has been selected as a grantee partner of Good+Foundation, a national organization founded in 2001 by Jessica Seinfeld to dismantle multi-generational poverty.

Good+Foundation pairs tangible goods such as car seats, strollers, diapers, and other essential baby gear with innovative services and comprehensive staff training, creating an upward trajectory for the whole family. Through this partnership, our families will have access to additional resources that ease daily stressors, allowing parents to focus on what matters most: nurturing their children and building a stable future.

“Our shared focus on supporting new mothers, investing in early childhood, and engaging fathers aligns deeply with Help Group’s belief that when we strengthen caregivers, we strengthen entire families,” said Miller.

Awarded New Contract to Reduce Child Abuse Rates in South/Central LA

Help Group has also been awarded the Child Abuse Prevention, Intervention & Treatment (CAPIT) contract in Service Area 6 (South/Central Los Angeles) by the Los Angeles County Department of Child and Family Services. CAPIT provides counseling and parent education designed to prevent child maltreatment, support family reunification, and help parents develop the tools they need to create safe, stable home environments.

“This work is rooted in compassion and prevention. It recognizes that families facing stress often need support, not judgment,” added Miller. “Through education, therapeutic services, and relationship-building, CAPIT helps parents regain confidence, rebuild trust, and move forward together.”

This new contract broadens Help Group’s child abuse prevention efforts and strengthens our long-standing commitment to keeping families safely together whenever possible.

At Help Group, we know that strengthening families strengthens communities. With these new partnerships and expanded services, we are doing exactly that, one parent, one child, one family at a time.
